2007.09.25

Anand, who is almost sure to be the next world champion, will face Morozevich today in one of the last games, where someone can trip him on the way to the title.

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 a6 6.f3 A Sicilian at last!

6... e5 7.Nb3 Be6 8.Be3 Nbd7 9.g4 Nb6 The other main move is b5

10.g5 Nh5 11.Qd2 Rc8 12.O-O-O Be7 13.Rg1 O-O Theory is just about to begin in this complicated position...

14.Kb1 Qc7 15.Qf2 Nc4 16.Bxc4 Bxc4 Qxc4 is more common.

17.Nd5 Bxd5 18.Rxd5 f5 19.gxf6 Rxf6 20.Qe2 The position is about equal...

20... Nf4 21.Bxf4 Rxf4 The white knight is too far away from d5.

22.Rd3 Qd7 After Nd2 the long journey to d5 begins.

23.Nc1 With the same idea.

23... Rcf8 24.a3 The knight will go to d5 via a2...

24... Kh8?! This wasn't needed

25.Na2 Qh3 26.Rg3 Qh5 27.Qg2! Rh4 28.h3 Qh6 29.Rb3! after a few excellent moves Anand has a serious advantage. The black quennside pawns are very weak and knight is heading for d5.

29... b5 30.Nb4 Rh5 The best chance

31.Qf1 The queen joins the knight and rook in the attack on the weak pawns. 31..Rh4 is best.

31... Rh4 32.Qg2 Rh5 repeating...

33.Nxa6 Bh4 34.Rg4 Bf6 35.Qe2 Rxh3 36.Rxb5?! Premature, it was better to wait with some usefull move like Rg1. Now after Be7! Moro is OK.

36... Bd8 Now after Rb8! Anand retains the pressure.

37.Rb8 Qf6 38.Nb4 White has a much better endgame after 38...Qxf3

38... Rxf3! 39.Nd5 Qf7 40.Qa6 h5 The position is still unclear...

41.Rg2 h4? A decisive mistake! Qe6 defending d6 was an only move...

42.Qxd6 Be7 43.Qxe5 Rxb8 44.Qxb8+ Kh7 Anand is won after the strong Qc7!

45.Qc7 Bf8 46.Qxf7 Rxf7 47.Rg4 Rf1+ 48.Ka2 Rh1 e5 wins straight.

49.e5 Bc5 50.e6 Kh6 after b4 the white pawns are too much for one bishop to stop.

51.Rc4 h3 Moro's only chance... After Rxc5! he queens at the cost of his rook, but still remains lost...

52.Rxc5 h2 53.Ne3 Ng4+ and e7 are two threats black can't cope with... And after Ra1+ he is still lost.

53... Ra1+ 54.Kxa1 h1=Q+ 55.Ka2 Qe4 56.Re5! A beautiful finish to a beautiful game! Anand left no question who will be World Champion, it's only a matter of few days now... And with great stile and strenght he proved he deserves the title!
