This is Gelfand's last chance to try and catch up with Anand and make the final of the World championship a more interesting one. On the other hand Svidler is still chasing his first win in the tournament.
.Nf3 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 d5 4.cxd5 Nxd5 5.Qa4+ This early check is the main move and the normal response is Bd7
... Bd7 And white must chose between the main Qh4, Qb3 and Qc2
.Qb3 Nb6 7.d4 Bg7 And here Gelfand can develop the bishop to g5 or f4 or postpone the choice with e4!?.
.Bf4 Be6 9.Qa3 The main move is Qc2 instead.
... O-O 10.e4! Gelfand has a clear advantage in the center
... c6 The aggressive h4!? is interesting.
.Rd1 Nc4 12.Bxc4 Bxc4 13.Ne5 After Ba6 Svidler is ok.
... Ba6 14.Be3 Qd6 15.f4 Qxa3 16.bxa3 f6 Black is already better with his two bishops.
.Nf3 Nd7 18.d5 White's adva ntage in the position is the shut Bg7, f5 will be countered with e5.
... Nb6 19.dxc6 bxc6 20.Nd4 Rfc8 21.Ne6 Bh6 22.Kf2 The strong c5 point compensates for the other flaws in Gelfand's position. A draw was agreed. Both playes were cautious and didn't take any risks.
